The Plough 90 all out Black Bull 73 all out
Nine man Plough were put in to bat by the Black Bull and managed to bat only to the 18 over before succumbing for 90 runs. Paul Armstrong was the major contributor with 30 runs, whilst no other batsman made double figures. Only skipper Mcgee failed to trouble the scorer !!
But the Plough’s strength is in the field, and even with only nine men, they quickly put the squeeze on the Black Bull batsmen. Skipper Mcgee elected to open the attack with spin from both ends to take the pace off the ball with Man of the Match Danny Kitchen taking 5 for 23 from his 4 overs. Special mention should be made of the Plough’s fielding exploits which controlled the run chase. Ben Pollendine held on to his first catch of the season, a skier at ‘Long On’ off ‘The Landlord’s’ bowling, which really set the scene. Danny Kitchen picked up to make a ‘direct hit’ run out as the wickets continued to tumble. It was good to see all team members contributing to the victory, with skippy Mcgee picking up two late wickets, one of which was a spectacular one handed diving slip catch by ‘The Landlord’ and Paul Johnson (P.J.) taking the last wicket with his very first ball in the 17th over.
Another very enjoyable Sunday morning fixture, played in excellent spirits despite the weather conditions.
Comment of the day from a Black Bull field after Danny Kitchen played and missed at a few dot balls ‘Try sending down a piano, see if he can play that !!’
THE PLOUGH INN CRICKET The Plough 69 all out The Holderness 73 for 9
The Plough made one major mistake on Sunday Morning, winning the toss and deciding to bat !! OnlyJohn Hodgson with a robust 24 and Mike Oldfield with 25 not out, showed any quality with the bat. Sean McKinnley wrapped up the Plough innings with figures of 6 wickets for 11 runs from his four overs. The total of 69 looked totally inadequate as Holderness opens scored quickly, but some inspired fielding and tight bowling kept The Plough in the match. Fine catches by David Ahearne (c&b) and Matthew Hodgson on the boundary kept the Plough spirits up and debutant Ahearne returned figures of 4 for 13. Unfortunately, Skipper Calum Mcgee was unable to hold on to two 'dolly' catches, and the match slipped away in the final over. A very entertaining and friendly match !!
